Matt is a New York City-based architect and structural engineer with twenty-five years of combined experience in the design and construction industry. His work focuses largely on environmental and systems performance, construction methodology and emerging technologies. His portolio, though consistent in theme, ranges widely in scale and sector - from research and public infrastructure projects to pedestrian bridges, installation art and furniture. Prior to entering private practice in 2024, Matt accumulated over two decades of experience with numerous recognised regional and international design firms. As an Associate at Grimshaw Architects, he was an integral member of the design and leadership structure of the practice. His project portfolio includes Oxagon Research and Innovation Campus, Newark International Airport Terminal, D-Tec rapid-deployment laboratory systems, and Grimshaw Future Workplace Initiative. He was a leading member of the global Sustainability and Carbon Emergency Task Force, responsible for defining Grimshaw's trajectory toward carbon neutrality and for the creation of Minoro, an open-source online decarbonization platform. With HOK in St Louis, his focus was on large-scale commercial and infrastructure projects, including King Abdullah University in Thuwal Saudi Arabia; Lisbon Airport Terminal; and Conoco Phillips Headquarters in Boulder Colorado. His early career as a structural engineer was focused on the design of long-span bridges and dynamic structures. An architect, structural engineer and educator, Matt has a broad perspective on theoretical design with a foundational understanding for building physics, materials and assembly. His work has been published internationally and has won numerous awards, including UNESCO Prix Versailles Special Prize and COTE-AIA Top 10 Green Buildings.
